The St. Louis metropolitan area, St. Louis City and County and surrounding counties such as St. Charles and Jefferson, is the 18th largest population center in the United States. With approximately three million people, St. Louis boasts a healthy and growing economic climate. Because of its historic role in the nation's westward expansion, St. Louis is nicknamed, "The Gateway to the West." The 630-foot tall stainless steel Gateway Arch is the tallest man-made monument in the United States.
